About Spirithouse Import Gallery

On her first trip to Southeast Asia  in 1998, Janah Campbell owner of Spirithouse Import Gallery, fell in love with a new world.  “Everything around me was new and fascinating.  The people, the food, the climate, the bustle of cities, the quiet beauty of the countryside and of course, the art all seemed strangely familiar.  I wanted to pack it all up and bring it home to share.”  What began in a suitcase filled with goods has become a full-fledged import business that takes Janah to Asia twice each year. Nurturing relationships with families and locally owned Asian businesses has made this work a satisfying endeavor that has created a fair trading opportunity for everyone involved.  “My suppliers depend on me to return over and over again and I depend on them to provide us with beautiful goods. “  Our customers in America enjoy the rich variety of the unusual, produced with care. Everyone wins.  That is our goal.   “I encourage my suppliers to use their traditional skills to recreate classic design and to stretch out into contemporary areas.  It is important to keep these gifts alive.  Here in the US, we find ourselves lacking in crafting traditions.  My customers are hungry for the handmade.  Knowing that an individual touched each item can make for a more personal shopping experience.  I literally have a story for every single item that I sell.”  We are proud of our family owned business.

Our Nevada City retail shop is located in the foothills of the Sierras,
Our beautiful little Victorian town is on the National Historic Register, home to 1849 California Gold Rush.   We have been in the same business location, coincidentally in the Old Chinese Quarter, for 10 years.  This is home.  Over the years we have developed a reputation that keeps our local customers happy and has spread to include visitors from just about everywhere.  For this we say: Thank You, Khap Khun Kha, Cam On, Terimakasih.  We hope you enjoy sharing our world and look forward to a continually developing and changing source of quality Asian goods – you can depend on it.
